TeraBox, a popular cloud storage platform, offers users generous free storage and impressive features. But, as with any online service, users often wonder: Is TeraBox safe? In this review, we’ll explore TeraBox’s security protocols, privacy measures, and potential concerns to help you decide if it’s trustworthy for your data storage needs.
What Is TeraBox?
TeraBox is a cloud storage management that helps you keep the backup of personal files on the cloud and share it with others. It is available for both mobile and desktop application users. You can sync or back up data from any device, and all changes will be updated automatically in real-time so that you can access the files anytime, anywhere on all devices. TeraBox pictures itself as a highly private and safe cloud storage application that safeguards all data on the cloud through its leading capacity and technology certifications.
But the main question lies. Is TeraBox safe for us?
In this blog post, I have covered some parameters and tried to review the application’s privacy rules, security, contact and support management.
At the end of this blog, you will surely be able to decide if TeraBox is safe to use or not.
Who Is The Founder of TeraBox?
Flextech Inc is TeraBox’s parent company. As per my search on LinkedIn, Flextech Inc is a Japan-based company with few employees working there. The company claims to have started its operations in 1992 and offers information technology-related services. Looking at the LinkedIn profile of the company, I did not find anything specific.
However, I could not find the profile of their founder and chief executive officer. I guess they are still a small group of employees trying to make big in the cloud storage industry.
TeraBox Company Details
TeraBox claims to have 320+ million users, 20+ million daily active users from 231+ countries. They are headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, and their research and development centre is there as well. Their team consists of engineers from leading tech companies like Apple, Google, and Microsoft. However, I found none of their engineers have worked for any such company which they claim. This is false information provided by the company.
Conclusion: The false information offered by the company makes TeraBox a bit unsafe to use.
Tera Box HTTPs Check

TeraBox website and application is fully secured by an SSL certificate, which means their website and app are safe. You can think of making any payment through or on their website without any hesitations. Having an SSL certificate is a must for any cloud storage provider. SSL certificate ensures that the transfer of any data between the user and the website is encrypted, meaning no one will steal your personal information.
Conclusion: This looks okay to me 🙂

Tera Box Contact Information Check
When exploring the TeraBox website, it’s concerning to note that there is no readily available contact information or customer support options. Unlike many reputable companies, TeraBox doesn’t provide a phone number, email address, or even a physical location. More strikingly, there’s no chat support icon on the site, which is typically a standard feature for online services to help users connect directly with customer service representatives in real-time.
Another red flag is found in the website’s footer, where social media links are often displayed. While TeraBox does include icons for Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, they notably omit a LinkedIn icon. LinkedIn is a platform known for professional networking and business transparency. The absence of a LinkedIn presence could suggest a lack of professional transparency, which is often a concerning sign when evaluating the trustworthiness of a company.
Conclusion: This makes me think TeraBox is not safe to use 🙁
Tera Box Company Profile Check
TeraBox is the subsidiary company of Flextech which is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Flextech offers information technology-related services and it is ISO-certified (ISO/IEC 27001:2013, 27018:2019, and 27701:2019), which underscores its commitment to high standards of privacy and security. However, I did not find any relevant LinkedIn profile for their company. Neither for TeraBox nor for Flextech. In my opinion, they have not shown the true picture of their company.
To simply put, despite its rapid growth, TeraBox remains unfunded by external investors, and its operations are fully controlled by its Japanese management.

Tera Box Domain Name Intent
TeraBox, the intent of the domain name is not very clear. If you look at some of the better alternatives of TeraBox, like OneDrive, Pcloud, iCloud and Nextcloud, then they all give an indication to the user regarding the business or service they are offering. In the case of TeraBox, it does not give users any indication of which service or business they are offering.
Conclusion: This makes me think TeraBox is not safe to use 🙁

TeraBox Website Design
The overall website design, UX and UI of the Terabox website looks decent to me. Navigation is very simple and all the information is mentioned on the website nicely. However, I am not very sure about the payment gateway and checkout process of the website as it looks suspicious to me. Also, the footer section of the website is incomplete and looks tidy to me.
Terabox could have done more to make its website look more appealing to the users. They should also include information about the company, founder, employees working, contact details and more such details that will help users to gain their trust.

Tera Box Reputation
Terabox has built a great reputation among users. As a cloud storage service provider, Terabox offers free cloud storage services which has attracted many users who are looking for affordable and reliable cloud storage solutions. It is one of the cheapest cloud storage providers in the market and competes with top brands like Google and Amazon.
Being marketed as a cheap cloud storage provider, Terabox has come into the picture raising concerns over its privacy, data safety and potential limitations on file access. Some of the users appreciate the ease of use and large storage capacity, while others question Terabox’s safety, privacy and security-related information. Overall, while TeraBox is a convenient option for storing files, users should carefully review its terms and security features before relying on it for sensitive data.
Factors That You Should Take Into Consideration To Determine The Safety Of TeraBox
If you are still confused about whether Terabox is safe or not, then take these 10 factors into consideration before using Terabox or any other cloud storage platform. Terabox is generously offering free and cheap cloud storage services which is attracting users who need a cost-effective solution for backing up their files. However, when choosing Terabox or any other cloud storage service, especially one that offers free storage, it is important to check safety and privacy.
1) Encryption
One of the primary concerns when using a cloud storage service is how good they protect your data from unauthorized access. This is where encryption comes into the picture and ensures that your files are safe and secured.
Does TeraBox use end-to-end encryption? End-to-end encryption ensures that only the user has access to their files, making it harder for hackers or third parties to intercept data.
Encryption in transit and at rest: A secure cloud service should encrypt files both while they are being uploaded/downloaded (in transit) and while they are stored on its servers (at rest).
Security of shared links: Many cloud services offer file-sharing options. Users should check whether TeraBox encrypts shared links or provides password protection for added security.
If TeraBox lacks robust encryption protocols, users should be cautious when storing sensitive or personal files on the platform.
2) Data privacy
When checking for the safety of a cloud storage platform, it is important to understand its data privacy policies.
Data collection policies: Does TeraBox collect and use user data for advertising or other purposes? Many free services generate revenue by selling user data to third parties.
Third-party access: Does the platform allow third parties (such as advertisers) to access user data?
Transparency: A reliable cloud storage provider should have a clear and detailed privacy policy outlining how user data is handled.

3) Server location
The location of the server of the cloud service provider is most important as it plays a role in data safety.
Where are Terabox’s servers located: If they are in a country with weak privacy laws, there may be high risk of data breaches or government surveillance.
Regulatory compliance: Does Terabox comply with international privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA? Compliance with such laws ensures better protection of users’ data.
If TeraBox stores data in locations with weaker privacy laws, users should reconsider storing sensitive or confidential files on the platform.
4) Two-factor check
Security features like Two-factor authentication add an extra layer of protection to the cloud storage account.
Does Terabox offer Two-factor authentication? A secure service should offer two-factor authentication to prevent unauthorized access, even if login credentials are compromised.
Strong password requirement: users should check if the platform encourages strong passwords and offers protection against brute force attacks.

User feedback: Looking at the reviews on platforms like Trustpilot, Google Play Store and App Store can help you determine if Terabox is safe or not.
Security incidents: Has Terabox experienced major data breaches or hacking attempts in the past? Do research on the web regarding these equations and you will surely get your answers whether Terabox is legit or not.
Customer support quality: A good and reputed cloud service will offer good customer support with 24*7 live chat assistance. Does Terabox offer such kind of customer support?
6. Free vs. Paid Plans and Monetization
Many free cloud storage services make money through alternative methods such as advertising or selling user data.
What’s the catch with free storage? TeraBox has a lot of free storage compared to others. Users should ask how the company makes money and if it compromises security.
Are there any hidden costs? Free plans often come with aggressive upselling or limitations that force users to upgrade.
Are ads involved? If the service displays ads, it might be tracking user behavior to serve targeted ads.
Knowing how TeraBox monetizes its service will help users determine if their data is being used for anything beyond storage.
7. Backup and Data Recovery Options
A secure cloud service should give users backup and data recovery options in case of accidental deletion or data loss.
Does TeraBox have file versioning? Some cloud storage providers allow you to recover previous versions of files which is useful in case of accidental edits or ransomware attacks.
How long are deleted files retained? Knowing how long TeraBox keeps deleted files before permanently deleting them will help you recover lost data.
Without proper backup and recovery features you will lose files forever.
8. File Sharing and Collaboration Security
If you use TeraBox for sharing files with others, you need to evaluate its security in this area.
Are shared links protected? Secure services allow you to add passwords or expiration dates to shared files.
Permission control: You should be able to control if recipients can edit, download or only view files.
Risk of unauthorized access: If sharing features are weak there’s a higher risk of sensitive files being accessed by unintended parties.
Weak file sharing security can lead to unauthorized access so you need to review TeraBox’s options in this area.
9. Terms of Service and User Control Over Data
A cloud storage provider’s Terms of Service (ToS) will reveal important details about data ownership and user rights.
Who owns the uploaded content? Some cloud platforms claim ownership rights over files stored on their servers.
Account suspension risks: Free services may suspend accounts if they suspect violations of their terms and you may lose data.
Can you permanently delete your data? A secure service should allow you to delete files completely without keeping backups.Read TeraBox’s ToS carefully to keep full control of your uploaded files.
10. Malware and Phishing Risks
Security risks like malware, phishing attempts and unauthorized access can compromise your files.
Has TeraBox been hit by malware? Check cybersecurity reports and user complaints to see if the service has been targeted by cyber attacks.
Fake websites and phishing scams: Make sure you’re using the official TeraBox website or app to avoid scams.
File scanning for malware: Some cloud services scan uploaded files for viruses to protect you.
TeraBox should have good security against cyber threats to be safe.
